It was around February 2013 when I’m still 3rd-year Computer Science Student. I need a new laptop for our thesis project ( Our Thesis is 3D Sepak Takraw) So I need a laptop that could handle 3D programming. Luckily, I found one of my classmates. He was selling his Dell i5 Laptop. He mentions that he will sell his laptop because he was building a Bitcoin Mining Setup.

I ask him about it Bitcoin thing. He said something like internet money / digital money that you could get once you have a good computer to mine bitcoin. After our transactions, I immediately try my new laptop and I search as well about bitcoin thing. Honestly, I didn’t understand any single thing about it at that time. So I stop reading about it. That time, the price of bitcoin is only around $100 ( Php. 5000 ).

What is Bitcoin anyway?

Bitcoin is a new currency that was created in 2009 by an unknown person using the alias Satoshi Nakamoto. Transactions are made with no middlemen – meaning, no banks! There are no transaction fees and no need to give your real name. More merchants are beginning to accept them: You can buy web hosting services, pizza or even manicures. Yeah, It’s like an internet money / digital money that you can’t touch just like the internet.

The idea behind Bitcoin mining is that you are using your computer to solve a mathematical problem that requires computing power. By solving mathematical problems in the network you have the reward with bitcoin which you could buy some items online that accepts cryptocurrency.

Fast Forward

Fast Forward, after hearing bitcoin 5 years later. I start to see a lot of news on my facebook regarding Bitcoin because it reaches again another milestone. 1 Bitcoin is around $1200+ in April 2017. If I remember correctly, I put it on my todo list that I will study about it but I never did. The opportunity comes to me but I’m not ready. So I didn’t bother to research it.

Until some of my friends in startup talking and posting their gains on investing in this bitcoin and cryptocurrency thing.

This made me really curious because my greedy self would like to earn some money as well.

It makes me more excited than ever about the possibility of this technology at some point in the future. I miss the golden opportunity, but I know as well it’s not yet too late, because of only a few people familiar in the Bitcoin. There are still have a great future ahead. People who get into this stage are still considered as an early adopter.
